A brace from Joshua Hansen helped propel the Puerto Rico Islanders to their second win of the regular season as they made their first foray away from the island in 2010.
Nicholas Addlery opened the scoring and Hansen struck twice as the Islanders rolled to a 3-1 win against the Crystal Palace Baltimore.
Sandy Gbandi, who scored in Puerto Rico’s season opening win, set up the opening strike with a free kick in the 26th minute that found the head of Addlery, who put it past Baltimore’s goalkeeper Chase Harrison.
In the 42nd minute, Hansen beat defender Takuro Nishimura and buried the ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead at halftime for the visitors.
After a foul in the box, on the 77th minute Hansen put it past Harrison again on a penalty shot to give Puerto Rico a 3-0 lead for the second consecutive game.
With two minutes remaining in the game, Baltimore’s Cuban striker Yaikel Perez was presented with a chance to score Baltimore’s first goal, but instead of shooting first time, he tried to turn his marker and his shot was blocked. The next minute, Mathew Mbuta’s attempted cross flew into the arm of a Puerto Rico defender and the referee called a penalty foul. Mbuta took the penalty himself sending Gaudette the wrong way to put Palace on the scoresheet at last.
