Bill “The Wall” Gaudette earned his second shutout of the year as the Puerto Rico Islanders won a berth in the finals of the 2010 CFU Clubs Championship Cup with a 3-0 win over Racing de Gônaïves (Haiti) in the 2nd leg of their 2nd Round match.
Josh Hansen scored 2 goals (7′ & 49′) and David Foley scored the 3rd goal (37′) of the game.
The Islanders won the 2-leg aggregate by a score of 5-0.
The Islanders joined fellow Puerto Rican side Bayamon FC (who also swept its two-leg series, downing Avenues United of St Vincent & The Grenadines 5-2 and 3-0) in the tournament’s Final Round, guaranteeing that at least one club from the island of Puerto Rico will reach the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League.
The third Puerto Rican club, River Plate PR, was not as fortunate as they fell 1-0 to host San Juan Jabloteh last night in Trinidad. River had previously drawn 1-1 with Guyana’s Alpha United. San Juan Jabloteh advanced undefeated with two wins. They had previously downed Alpha United 2-0.
San Juan Jabloteh will join fellow Trinidad & Tobago club Joe Public in the Final Round. Joe Public defeated WBC of Suriname 5-0 and System 3 of St Vincent & The Grenadines, 3-1, to win its group.
The two Puerto Rican and two Trinidadian teams will meet in the 2010 CFU Clubs Championship Cup’s Final Phase to be staged in Macoya, Trinidad, May 5-9 at Marvin Lee Stadium – home of Joe Public, with the top three finishers qualifying for the Preliminary Round of the CONCACAF Champions League.
