Islanders lose SuperCopa: River Plate PR 2-0 Islanders
By: BoriQa | December 12th, 2010
Bottom line… The Islanders B-team was not anywhere close to the River Plate PR’s A-team, with their 7 starting Argentinian reinforcements (playing on questionable tourist visas and currently on investigation by USA Immigration).
Regardless, the Islanders poor showing in the 2010 SuperCopa Finals will keep them thinking about better planning for next year’s tournament.
The Islanders played the Supercopa without: Bill Gaudette, Nick Addlery, David Foley, Kendall Jagdeosingh, Marco Velez, Emory, Nurse and Daniel; all of whose contracts expired at the end of the 2010 USSF Div2 CHampionship.
David Horst (on loan from Real Salt Lake) was also missing from the tournament; while Alexis Rivera and Jonathan Faña were both unable to play in the Final due to injuries. Both Alexis and Faña played in the Group Round of the SuperCopa.
The Islanders will be looking for some revenge next year against River Plate PR in the 2011 Caribbean Football Union’s Clubs Championship.

Is Fa~a still on loan to the Islanders?

-

No. I believe Faña signed with the Islanders now.

Hey Boriqua, I have some questions:
1. Was this tournament home-and-home? Did teams have equal home and road games in the Group Stage?
2. Where can I see a pic of the trophy the Islanders won when they won the Div 2 Championship?

-

Ok, I just did some research and saw that the Islanders were the home team for BOTH LEGS of this Final. Why? Why didn’t River Plate get a home game?

-

Why didn’t River Plate have any home games in this 2-leg Final?

Hey BoriQa, here’s some news you probably don’t want to hear: according to some fans who are apparently in the know,
The Impact are back to negotiating with Bill Gaudette. I think they’re really intent on bringing him in this season and for MLS. Matt Jordan hasn’t signed yet, but has been hanging around the training grounds, so, we’ll see. But I think even the FO knows that Jordan won’t be their keeper come 2012.
