

2009 USL-1 “Normalized” Standings – Week #5

The Puerto Rico Islanders lost their first game of the year in “normal” week-5 action dropping them to 5th place, tied with Vancouver (and also tied in points with Portland) with 8 points, only 2 points behind the leading Rochester Rhinos and Carolina Railhaks. The Rhinos won their 3rd of the season while the Railhawks lost their 1st this week.
In other 5th “normal” week action this weekend, Vancouver defeated the Minnesota Thunder by a 3-2 score. It was the Whitecaps 2nd win in a row, while it was the 2nd straight loss for the Thunders.
The Montreal Impact fired their DT John Limniatis this week after a dissapointing 1-0 loss to the Toronto FC in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. Under their new interim head coach Marc Dos Santos, the Impact hit rock bottom in the standings with a draw that was unable to keep them from sinking to 11th place. The 2008 USL-2 Champion Cleveland City Stars finally got their 1st win of the season this week which lifted them from 11th to 9th place.
Charleston and Portland posted wins this week, while the Miami Blues lost their 2nd of the season and the Austin Aztex received a trouncing for their first loss of the season.
With 2 wins and 3 ties, Charleston remains the only undefeated team this season.
