2009 USL-1 “Normalized” Standings – Week #13
By: BoriQa | July 12th, 2009
Another home win, the 2nd in a row, for the Puerto Rico Islanders in week-13 “normal” action. The Islanders terminated the Charleston Battery’s undefeated season record with a last second ‘alajuelazo‘ 1-0 win, in front of a 2,000 Thursday crowd!
The Islanders (22 pts) remain in 4th place in the “normal” standings, 4 points behind the new (normal) league leading Portland Timbers (26 points) who trounced their opponents this week.
Portland benefited from Charleston’s loss in Borinquen to take away from the Battery the top spot in the tables.
The Islanders will face the Battery again in normal week-14 and seek to give them their 2nd consecutive loss of the season, after Charleston went undefeated in the first 12 games of the 2009 season.
In other normal week-13 action, the Carolina Railhawks (24 pts) played a one-goal tie and wasted an opportunity to finish tied in the top of the tables with the Timbers.
The Rochester Rhinos won their match and went up a spot from 6th to 5th in the standings, while the Vancouver Whitecaps trounced their opponents to climb 2 spots (from 8th) to replace the Rhinos in the 6th place in the normal standings.
Minnesota Thunder and Miami FC both had draws in their respective games this week; while the Montreal Impact, Austin Aztex and Cleveland City Stars were the losers this week.
The Impact’s loss (their 2nd in a row) saw them drop 3 spots from 5th place to 8th this week, while the Thunder’s tie raised them from the cellar (by goal difference).
