Islanders trounce Guaynabo Fluminense in friendly scrimmage
By: BoriQa | April 25th, 2009
After the Islanders scoreless draw last night against the Rochester Rhinos, the Orange Troops were up bright and early this morning to face the 2008 PRSL semifinalist Guaynabo Fluminense in a 45-minute friendly scrimmage at Juan Ramón Loubriel stadium in Bayamón.
The game allowed the Islanders to workout some of their backup players and one trialist (Mohamed), as well as to welcome back Raphael “Mime” Ortiz to the team.
The 45-minute game was part of Guaynabo Fluminense’s preparation for the upcoming 2009 PRSL regular season that starts on May 23.
But under the rainy skies of Bayamón, Fluminense got a lot more than they could handle, as the Islanders scored 6 goals in less than 45 minutes. The PRSL team wasn’t able to resist the constant attack of the Islanders top guns. Fabrice Noël scored a hat-trick (3 goals), while Kendal Jagdeosingh and Martin Núñez scored 2 and 1 goals respectively.

The league mght start even sooner.. May 22… Fluminense played with young players, but their most offensive reinforcements arrive this week. Last years Atletico San Juan players Geison Carvhalo and Adriano will be playing with Fluminense this season, according to my sources.

OMG. After taking a good look at the scoreboard I realized this lasted 45 min. So in a normal situation this could have ended 10-0 to 12-0! However, the Flu is still in pre-season and played without their reinforcements.
We need more scrimmages between PRSL and the Islanders just to see how much Puerto Rican soccer has to grow. It is an honor to have a club like the Islanders on the Island. We have to take advantage of that.

Very true. I believe that the #1 objective should be to develop puertorican youth. Myy son is kicking the ball everyday because of these Islanders and hes 4. I can only imagine how many kids out there are working on their game. Should be an interesting 10-15 years.
