Islanders and Sevilla FC PR scoreless in friendly
By: BoriQa | March 13th, 2009
The USL-1 Islanders and the 2008 Puerto Rico Soccer League (PRSL) champion Sevilla FC PR were scoreless in a friendly at Juan Ramón Loubriel stadium, in Bayamón. The scrimmage game was part of the training excersizes for both teams before their next international commitments later this month.
The Islanders will face Mexico’s Cruz Azul in the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League semifinals on March 17th; and Sevilla FC will face the Greenbay Hoppers from Antigua in the first round of the 2009 CFU Champions Cup on March 21st.
The Islanders starting lineup included: Justin Myers; Kevon Villaroel, Nigel Henry, Alexis Rivera, Andrés Cabrero, James Marcelin, Martín Núñez, Sean Fraser and Kendall Jagdeosingh, along with the recently acquired Kyle Veris and Argentinian trialist Lucas Cisneros. The 2nd half substitutions included John Krause and trialist Evan Schwartz.
Colin Clarke told El Nuevo Día “it gives us the oportunity to see some players that have not played enough time on the field, and others that are on trial”. He emphasized that Sevilla (PR) came to look for a good result against us, just like we did when we played the MLS a few weeks ago. We need to ensure we don’t fail. We need to be professional, keep posesion of the ball and get a good result”.

Had we gon against Sevilla FC, im sure it wouldnt have ended 0-0 haha. I did not know that Sevilla FC Puerto Rico had existed until i saw a commercial a few months back announcing a match and at first i thought it was the spanish team. I was dissapointed when i found out that it was not them. I have much respect for Sevilla as a club and would love to see them.
AS Roma should come here hahaha. I love that team. We was robbed out of the Champions league.

Do you live in PR Apuzzo? Sevilla FC PR is the 2008 champion of the local Puerto Rico Soccer League.

Is like living a dream. Is amzing how far islanders are going in history right now. People may not understand but this is the start of futbol development in PR. Could mean Puerto RIco raising position in the world ranking and probably a new futbol threat:P. As good as we are for sport is amzing we never pay interest to futbol.
